Introducing Genetic Wellness: The Power of Knowing YOU
Dr. Deepak Kotecha has long held a special interest in overall patient wellness and especially the role that nutrition plays in chronic disease processes, as well as in alternative and integrative medicine, Yog (Yoga) and stress management. Although it is blatantly obvious, we must fundamentally realize that our eyes are a part of the body. For the eyes to be healthy, the body must be healthy. In other words, the person has to be healthy for optimum eye health to be achieved. However, our genetic make-up is rarely perfect, and “mistakes” can occur at the genetic level, causing certain functions to not occur, occur poorly, or to occur in excess. Couple this with eating foods incompatible or poorly compatible with your own genetic make-up and you may have a recipe for a “disease process” to occur.
The old adage – you are what you eat – is truer than ever. That, in a nutshell, is the importance of the Genetic Wellness and a personalized nutrition program. You may not be able to change your genes but you can most certainly intervene and modify their expression through nutrition. Welcome to the world of Epigenetics.
Sophisticated testing including genetics, methylation, neurotransmitters and more to help conditions including Migraines, Chronic Fatigue, ADHD, Depression, Autism, Macular Degeneration and more. Exciting and powerful information that you can use to help guide your own health! Help your body to help itself by providing what it needs to get and stay well and by avoiding what may cause it to get sick.
Becoming Your Own Nutritional Genius
How many times have you been told: Eat your carrots! Do you wonder if they might indeed be right for you though? Or not? In fact, what you think is healthy for you may not actually be healthy for you. This is why we are proud to introduce our newest program, “become your own Nutritional Genius” and we invite you to make an appointment to become your own Nutritional Genius.
Find out what to eat in abundance, moderation or to avoid. When you perform the Nutritional Genius testing, you will have the most common foods analyzed and broken down into what to eat in abundance, moderation or to avoid based on your genetics and food sensitivities in an easy to read printed chart or report. You will also have the option to order specific and targeted supplements in personalized custom packs to fill in your nutritional gaps and support your personal biochemistry. This prevents cells from becoming sick or minimizes the impact of genetic mutations, potentially averting disastrous processes from occurring or from rapid progression. If so indicated by the specific testing, you may also be referred to your physician (or a choice of physicians familiar with the program if you wish) for medical and/or hormonal intervention as well. However, the choice of what you do with this powerful information is ultimately yours.
Should I become my own Nutritional Genius?
Whether you are young or old, dealing with disease or seeking prevention – we believe that you should always be integrating the best of the natural and traditional paradigms. If you are experiencing or have a family history of any of the following chronic conditions, or you are having limited or poor success with traditional forms of intervention, we invite you to consider becoming your own Nutritional Genius as it can help guide you towards better health:
- Macular Degeneration
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Fatigue
- Autism / Asperger’s
- Heart Disease
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Autoimmune Conditions
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Alzheimer’s Disease
The cause of the conditions above are complex and involve our genetics, the environment, multiple risk factors like smoking, alcohol consumption and diet, and in many cases, are also sometimes related to one another. Although we can’t control our genetics, we can impact our health by what we eat. Knowing what to eat and what to avoid is powerful information that helps guide us to improved wellness.
About Genetic Wellness and Nutritional Sensitivity Testing
The testing comprises of the following two simple tests:
1. A cheek-swab from each side. This is a DNA test that analyzes the area of your genetics that has to do with crucial bodily functions, such as controlling DNA, inflammation, immune function, detoxification and mood balancing;
2. A simple finger-prick blood test to test for food sensitivity (not necessarily to specific foods but to certain enzymes).
These two tests are sent off for analysis, and you will be provided a link and/or instructions to complete an extended health/history questionnaire on-line which normally takes about 20 minutes, which you can do from the convenience of your home. The results are typically available in about 4 – 6 weeks and you will be scheduled for an appointment to go over the results.
It is common for people to be sensitive to foods they eat frequently without even realizing it. Often a person will find that the foods they eat the most are the very ones that may be causing their symptoms or contributing to their illness. Your results will include sensitivity testing to fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, dairy, coffee and chocolate. Yes, even chocolate.
Although your Health Insurance typically does not cover the cost of this testing, your Flex Spending Account (FSA) and Health Spending Account (HSA) typically will cover all related costs.
